COODU has partnered with the Water Resources Department (WRD), Environmental Cell Division , to implement impactful initiatives focused on environmental conservation, capacity building, and sustainable water management. Through this collaboration, COODU has been actively engaged in promoting Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) , environmental stewardship, and awareness creation among communities and institutions.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Studies

• Conducted detailed Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for various river basins and irrigation systems.
• Provided actionable insights to support environmentally sustainable water resource planning and management.

Capacity Building of Water Users Associations (WUAs)

• Designed and facilitated training programs and workshops for Water Users Associations (WUAs) to strengthen participatory approaches in irrigation management.
• Enhanced the knowledge and skills of farmers and community leaders to manage water resources efficiently under the PIM framework .

Plantation Drives

• Implemented plantation activities along irrigation canals, in government schools, and on common lands.
• Promoted ecological restoration and increased green cover to mitigate soil erosion and improve micro-climates in rural areas.

Environmental Awareness Programs

• Organized awareness campaigns and educational programs in schools, colleges, and community institutions to promote
eco-friendly practices and environmental responsibility.
• Engaged students and youth in participatory activities such as rallies, competitions, and environmental clubs.

Impact

• Strengthened community-based irrigation management through empowered WUAs.
• Enhanced ecological balance by integrating plantation drives with water management initiatives.
• Increased awareness among students, youth, and farmers on the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
