History

COODU meaning "nest" in Tamil, was founded in 1995 by a group of dedicated research scholars responding to the urgent needs of street children and juvenile delinquents in Tamil Nadu's rapidly urbanizing cities. Recognizing the dire socio-economic conditions faced by these vulnerable populations, COODU began its journey by providing critical insights to policymakers through workshops and seminars.

Over time, the organization expanded its focus to include all marginalized groups, particularly women, who were often victims of exploitation. This expansion led to the implementation of large-scale watershed projects aimed at addressing basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter for the impoverished.

Since its inception, COODU has pioneered initiatives across various sectors including agriculture, health, water and sanitation, and public health. The organization has organized numerous health camps and training sessions on critical issues such as HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. Additionally, COODU has made significant contributions to improving water quality and sanitation practices within communities. With over 25 years of impactful service, COODU continues to be a leading force in advocating for the rights and upliftment of oppressed communities throughout Tamil Nadu.
