COODU is an empanelled NGO by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of Tamil Nadu, and has been actively engaged in implementing CCDU (Communication and Capacity Development Unit) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) activities across 8 districts of Tamil Nadu.

Through its partnership with the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board, COODU has been instrumental in promoting safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene practices, while building the capacities of local institutions to ensure sustainable water resource management.

Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU)

Under CCDU, COODU has successfully:

  • Conducted awareness campaigns in rural and urban areas on safe water use, hygiene, and sanitation practices.
  • Facilitated capacity-building programs for Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSCs), Gram Panchayats, and frontline functionaries.
  • Organized training sessions for masons, plumbers, pump operators, and caretakers on the operation and maintenance of water supply systems.
  • Developed and disseminated Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to support behavioral change and community participation.

Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)

As part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, COODU has been actively involved in:

  • Promoting Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs): Supporting households to access piped safe drinking water.
  • Strengthening Village Action Plans: Assisting VWSCs and Gram Panchayats in planning, executing, and monitoring water supply projects.
  • Behavioral Change Communication: Engaging with schools, SHGs, and communities on water conservation, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
  • Capacity Building and Community Ownership: Training local institutions and empowering communities—especially women and youth—to manage and sustain water supply systems.

The Community Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) project with the TWAD (Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage) Board was aimed at enhancing community participation in water management.
