Campaign on Water and Sanitation since the year 2006

There are five sub district level laboratories each with five staff with a capacity to test 3000 samples in an year located in Tiruvannamalai-1, the Nilgris-2, Tiruppur-2 and Sivaganga-1. At the district level, there are five laboratories tasked with payment of salaries and maintenance.
• From the samples, the quality of water, satisfying all parameters in each water source, is
ascertained.
• Contaminated source is removed of pollutants and water quality restored.
• Supply of quality water, satisfying all parameters, in assured.
• Source of pollutant is either removed or destroyed.
• Allocation of fund for cleaning agents and materials is ensured in village Panchayat
Budget.
• All Rural villages are assured of potable water.
• Contaminated source is immediately attended to, cleaned and restored to clean status,
based on lab report.
• Lab reports on quality of water satisfying all parameters, influence Government Policy
on Potable water.
• Members and office bearers as well as people have become aware of the need for a
healthy environment.
• Many village Panchayats have become open defecation free and proud of it.
• People have applied for and constructed latrines under Total Sanitation Campaign and
later Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan.
• Village Panchayat administrations have begun to implement solid waste management
and constructed sewerages.
• Toilet blocks for men and women have been constructed separately for people residing
in rented houses or for people with no space for construction of latrines.
