With an objective of empowering women, COODU has formed 1272 Self Help
Groups (SHGs) comprising more than 20,000 members in Annur,
Perianaickanpalayam, Avinasi, Sulur, Palladam, Karamadai, Pongalur blocks and
Coimbatore Corporation, federated SHGs into 28 Panchayat Level Federations
(PLFs) and grouped PLFs into 7 block level clusters.
COODU has imparted Animators and Representatives training, training on
Organisation, book and accounts keeping, EDP and skill trainings.
Starting with thrift activities, SHGs were linked with financial institutions, in
which SHGs deposited their savings and as they grew and developed skills,
ventured into starting enterprises facilitated by COODU.
Associating with Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women
(TNCDW) Ltd, TAHDCO, NABARD and various financial Institutions, COODU has
arranged loans to SHGs to the tune of Rs.3.175 crores. SHGs had saved Rs.87.58
crores as of 2008.
COODU had also arranged Life Insurance to the SHGs from LIC.
COODU had provided 30 sewing machines to SHGs in association with
ANARDE Foundation.
Under TREAD scheme of MSME, COODU had imparted skill trainings and
arranged loans from financial institutions for 50 SHGs to start enterprises.
COODU had organised training on Naturopathy and Yogic Science to 40 SHG
members in Kallipalayam Town Panchayat by a doctor specialising in Indian
medicinal systems under Ministry of Ayush.
COODU had facilitated 15 SHGs in acquiring control of 15 PDS outlets and
also facilitated in establishment of a sanitary mart for sweepers in Coimbatore city.
