Having facilitated in the development of 292 watersheds with an extent of
1,41,000 Ha, the organisation contributed to the growth of agriculture & allied
sectors, whereby, approximately 14,600 Ha of land has been reclaimed for
agricultural activities; in 24,760 Ha, agro-forestry had been raised/ developed; 5480
Ha of land had been brought under horticulture crops. The Central and state
Government scheme under which watershed development were executed are:
• Drought prone Areas Programme (DPAP) (IV, V,VI,VII,VII and X batches)
• Integrated Watershed Development Programme (IWDP)
• Restructured National Watershed Development Programme in Rain fed Areas
(NWDPRA)
• Tamil Nadu comprehensive Waste land Development Project (TNCWP)
• NABARD- Watershed Development Fund Assisted Programme
• CAPART- Drought Proofing project
• Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP)
• Western Ghats Development Programme (WGDP)
For its rich and varied experiences in Dindigul, Cuddalore, Namakkal,
Krishnagiri, Ramanathapuram, Theni, Tiruppur and Coimbatore districts, COODU
was approached by ITC Ltd for developing watersheds in Karamadai block of
Coimbatore district named as Water Stewardship Programme under CSR initiative.
Launched in November, 2015, the project was started in two Panchayats and
expanded to seven Panchayats, Twenty nine watersheds were prioritised and with
the exception of five which are in Reserved Forests, twenty four (24) watersheds are
under development.
In December, 2019, HDB Financial Services, a subsidiary of HDFC Bank
approached COODU for development of Watersheds. Having worked in Annur block
before, COODU prioritised four watersheds in four village Panchayats, where
preparatory phase has began.
