COODU, in association with Community Capacity Development Unit (CCDU)
of Tamil Nadu Water Supply And Drainage (TWAD) Board Ltd., has been conducting
awareness campaigns among people and training local bodies representatives,
Government field officials, teachers, Panchayat staff, women SHGs members and
volunteers on safe drinking water, rain water harvest and conservation, best
sanitation practices, health and hygiene, since the year 2006 in thirteen (13) districts.
For award of Nirmal Gram Purashkar (NGP) to village Panchayats for
maintaining cleanliness, Solid and Liquid Waste Management, best sanitation and
hygienic practices and Open Defecation Free (ODF) zones, COODU, meticulously
carried out verification exercises in 471 village Panchayats in erstwhile Andhra
Pradesh and 385 village Panchayats in Maharashtra, under the purview of Ministry
of Rural Development.
COODU had constructed 3750 Individual House Hold Latrines (IHHLs) in
Coimbatore under Centrally sponsored TSC and SGRY.
As asked by Coimbatore Corporation, COODU had maintained 81 Public
Conveniences in 3 zones.
COODU had conducted Clean Village Campaigns in Perianaickanpalayam
and Sulur blocks.
COODU had conducted on behalf of ECO TECH Consortium training on Solid
and Liquid Waste and production of Bio-fertilisers for village Panchayats Presidents
and Vice Presidents and Union Councillors at block level in 10 blocks of Ariyalur and
Perambalur districts and also at Districts level with the support of Gandhigram Rural
University, Dindigul for Local Bodies Representatives.
