ITC – WATER STEWARDSHIP PROGRAMME

COODU, in Water Stewardship Programme in partnership with ITC Ltd under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, has been developing twenty four (24) watersheds in seven village panchayats of karamadai block of Coimbatore since November, 2015. In the six years project, COODU has executed 1435 works by undertaking treatment and development measures in 3120 Ha. conducted Farmers Field School trainings and planted 43,187 tree and fruit seedlings and formed 31 Water Users Groups, with contribution from farmers and WUGs. COODU, in partnership with MARICO, a leading FMCG company, had executed soil & moisture conservation measures in 458 coconut farms, and farm ponds in 51 farms with contribution from 509 farmers.

In December, 2020, COODU was approached by HDB Financial Services, a subsidiary of HDFC Bank to send proposals for watershed development to be implemented in Coimbatore district, which was complied with. The proposal for development of 4 watersheds in four village Panchayats has been sanctioned and Preparatory phase has begun.
